Why should I join WNE?
Only you can answer this question… there are many reasons (fun, economics, organizational support, the future) influenced by various personal considerations. The most enticing reason is opportunity. The opportunities within WNE are limited to your imagination and capabilities; From the simple pleasures that wilderness recreation offers to providing a wilderness educational experience to researching a “green” commodity/practice that might have a positive impact on society… you decide!
Who joins WNE?
Almost anyone! The common bond(s) between WNE members is the enjoyment of New England Wilderness and its, sometimes passionate, preservation.
What is there to do at WNE?
Almost anything allowed by State and local laws and as permitted by WNE rules! From enjoying the peace and tranquility offered by special, non-mechanized “quiet” zones to hiking, biking, disc golf, bow courses, dogsleds, horses to limited boating and ATV/Snowmobile trail access. Members have the opportunity to share their wilderness knowledge/skill with others and provide individual and group educational seminars/experiences. Limited overnight opportunities are also available. To preserve the wilderness/wilderness experience for all, daily access will be limited and reservations are required!
Can I bring a group or class to WNE? (Back to Top)
Absolutely! Wilderness recreation and educational experiences are especially encouraged! If you are interested in providing a group or class activity, please complete a Program Proposal form. Depending upon your program/activity, reservations are required.
Why are there different membership levels?
Although you can explore for free on a per day basis without being a member, reservations are required. As one would expect, WNE members get priority reservation status and can "bump" non-member reservations. WNE offers various membership levels that allow you to choose the opportunity that make the most sense to you and your current lifestyle/situation. Whether you want to have a “singular escape” into wilderness or you have a large/extended family that would enjoy a wilderness experience together, WNE makes these opportunities available to you.
Business memberships are available for employer/employee training/team-building and retreats. Other levels of membership provide economic opportunities for “investment” or researching a “green” product or practice that might have a positive impact on society.
How do I become a member?
Complete an application and submit it. Membership opportunities are limited and offered only when available.
What are the rules of use?
In order to preserve Wilderness and the wilderness experience, WNE limits the number of visitors allowed on its properties, even within specific sites/areas. To minimize impacts to these site/areas, WNE requires “reservations”.
In general, anything that disrupts the wilderness (flora, fauna or natural processes) or other visitors’ wilderness experience (including litter, noise, and light “pollution”) is restricted or not allowed.
WNE and its members are serious about preserving wilderness and the wilderness experience. Contact us if you have questions.
Is there a daily use fee? (Back to Top)
Yes. While membership fees provide various opportunities, including reservation status, discounts, options for income opportunities, etc., other fees, including daily use fees, provide a financial support mechanism for WNE to fulfill its mission.
Where do I park?
Where you park your vehicle (s) depends upon various parameters such as the time of year, primary activity and length of visit. During the reservation process, we will assign you/your vehicle (s) to specific parking site(s).
Can I bring my pet(s) to WNE?
Yes. Domesticated pets are allowed at WNE with accompanying owners as long as they are leashed, caged or otherwise controlled at all times. Excrement retrieval, destructive actions, noise and safety of the pets are the owners’ responsibility.
Is WNE a campground or resort?
No. WNE is an organization of concerned wilderness enthusiasts who share common recreational and preservation interests. Although WNE offers limited and primitive wilderness overnight options, we will refer you to a local campground or resort if your visit will require this type of accommodation.
Does WNE have hotel rooms?
No. WNE provides primitive wilderness recreational/educational opportunities. WNE can refer you to a local hotel/motel for the duration of your stay.
How do I get there?
In order to preserve Wilderness and the wilderness experience, WNE limits the number of visitors allowed on its properties, even within specific sites/areas. In order to control these visits, WNE requires “reservations”. Each visit to a WNE property requires a separate reservation. Upon approval of your reservation, we will provide you specific travel directions from your requested starting location.
