WNE offers a limited number of primitive (off-the-grid) cabins, expedition tents, yurts (a Mongolian-inspired "expedition tent") and tenting platforms. These are offered to members or member organizations/group leaders, on a first-come-first-served basis, as a way to extend their stay in the wilderness.
WNE is not a campground! All visits to WNE are self-serve and "on your own". There is no running water or electricity. Composting toilets are located within the properties.
Land management companies monitor recreational use and reservations.
Occasionally, WNE will offer to its members an opportunity to upgrade to a Emerald membership.
Emerald memberships include "exclusive" use of WNE properties ranging from 5 "private-use" acres to "community" primitive shelters and yurt/expedition tent platforms. Platinum memberships are restricted in number according to the desires of the property owners/managers and to preserve the wilderness experience. Emerald memberships are offered only when available. See the Membership Page for details.

A trapper's cabin is a small "cabin" built upon skid. Skids allow it to be "skidded" (dragged) by a team or horses or oxen over frozen ground. Originally designed and utilized by fur trappers and hunters in the 1700's, it functioned as a wilderness shelter strategically placed within a hub of long trapping lines. The size and style varied to suit the trappers/hunters, most were 8'X12' (2.5X3.7m) and designed to sleep 2-4,. When game became scarce, the cabin was dragged to another location.
WNE trapper cabin floor plans also vary, most are 8'X12' (2.5mX3.7m) and can sleep 2-6, including K9 friends. These wilderness shelters can be used year round and are moved to several glade or meadow locations, as needed, to maintain the wildness of each location and the wilderness experience.
